Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic, or pool therapy, has long been used as an adjunct to traditional land-based therapy techniques. Water is an ideal environment for therapy because it’s buoyancy greatly reduces body mass and provides support, which allows for easier and less painful movement. This also permits range of motion exercises to begin earlier than is possible on land. Most patients can get in the water and feel no pain. Patients use the water’s resistance to increase strength, stability and tissue healing while decreasing pain and swelling. It is ideal for athletic injuries, back and neck injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, and treatment of orthopedic, neurologic and arthritic conditions.
